Jacques Lassaigne wins in Decanter!

December 12th, 2007

Great news - Jacques Lassaigne cuvee “Le Cotet” has won the award for Champagne of the month in the January edition of Decanter Magazine, out on 3rd Dec. As you can imagine this got me very happy indeed, the timing incendently coincided with a trip to Paris the day after seeing the article to round of what turned out to be a great week. Decanter awarded the Champagne 4 stars - here’s the full review

“Another Champagne for those worried about what’s actually in the bottle, this Extra Brut Blanc de Blanc is made using minimal amounts of sulpher. A lovely autolytic nature is evident on the nose alongside a creamy, honeyed facet. The biscuity palate has hints of red fruit and a creamy mouthfeel. Drink now.”

It’s another great review for Jacques Lassaigne, previously the Cuvee Les Vignes de Montgueux received praise in Organic Life Magazine earlier in the year. I knew as soon as I tasted the Champagne that it was something special so it’s very satisfying for me to see recognition at this level.

So it was with this great news that I went off to Paris, a trip partly to see family in Champagne but also a little break for me and Katie as we had a one night stop over in the capital. If you are looking for a decent central place to stay by the way I reckon you could do a lot worse that Hotel Therese - www.hoteltherese.com it was 145 Euros for one night but a nice little place and would stay again.

Having been a very good week, I thought a great way to celebrate recent successes with the Business was to treat ourselves to dinner at a little bistro that we first went to 8 years. The place is called Wadja and it’s in Montparnasse - 10, Rue de la Grande-Chaumerie, Paris 6. Tel: 00 33 (0)1 46 33 02 02 10, Nearest Metro: Vavin. They have the best wine list I’ve seen in any place, all natural wines some from places I’ve heard of before and the owner is happy to give you a taste before you buy.

I also managed to meet up with old friend who runs a very nice little wine shop in Paris - more on this and the natural wines I tasted in Paris soon..
